Chris Archer ended his streak of 11 consecutive losses and 15 winless starts against the Red Sox when he earned a victory Friday at Fenway Park.

It was his first win against Boston since Sept. 19, 2012, at Tropicana Field, his first career appearance against the Red Sox. It was the longest losing streak in Rays history against any opponent and the longest by any pitcher against the Red Sox since Floyd Bannister’s 11-gamer from 1982 to 1986.

“I really don’t think about that stuff because every year is a new year, every game is a new game, every pitch is a new pitch,” Archer said.

Manager Kevin Cash said, “It didn’t appear like it’s been in his head at all. He just went out and threw his game and followed up on what he’s already done this year (2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in three starts).”

Archer outdueled Porcello. It was the 12th time Archer has opposed a former Cy Young Award winner, and he is 3-4 with a 2.96 ERA in those outings.

Through 12 games, Rays starting pitchers had a 3.33 ERA, sixth best in the majors and 0.74 better than any other AL East rotation. But they lost a starter when right-hander Jake Odoriz

zi was put on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Odorizzi had to leave his start Saturday after throwing one pitch in the second inning and feeling tightness in the leg. He had been hit there by a line drive in his previous outing.

“I didn’t know that, actually. That’s really cool. It’s something I can definitely appreciate.” Orioles rookie Trey Mancini after learning he had set a team record with five home runs in his first 10 career games
