Souza went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs April 20 against the Detroit Tigers, matching his career high in runs and one shy of his career high in hits and RBI. Through his first 19 games he hit .347 with a 1.037 on-base plus slugging percentage, well above his career marks of .242 and .735. From 2015 to 2016, Souza hit .215 in home games, lowest in the majors (minimum 200 home at-bats). In his first 13 home games this year, he hit .408 (20-for-49).
