Right-hander Corey Kluber hopes to return from the disabled list to start at home Friday against the Minnesota Twins.

The 2015 American League Cy Young Award winner was placed on the DL after leaving his start May 2 at the Detroit Tigers after three innings because of back discomfort.

“Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later,” manager Terry Fran

cona said of Kluber’s return. “But we’re going to do what’s right, because we don’t want him to have to go through the year like this.” uRight- hander Mike Clevinger was recalled Sunday from Class AAA Columbus (Ohio) and started in Kluber’s place that day against the Kansas City Royals, allowing one hit and no runs in 52⁄ innings. Clevinger made his 3 major league debut last season with the Indians, pitching in 17 games. In six starts this season with Columbus, he was 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA.

Left- hander reliever An

drew Miller did not allow a run in his first 13 outings and 152⁄ 3 innings, quite a strong start after he pitched a combined 932⁄ in3 nings between the regular season and postseason last year and participated in the World Baseball Classic in March.

“I don’t think I need to catch my breath,” Miller said. “I felt pretty good in the offseason. I felt like I took care of what I needed to, and I think the WBC was good for me.”
