Los Angeles Dodgers

The question is one several Dodgers opponents will explore. How do you pitch to Cody Bellinger?

The rookie’s recent surge will command attention. And adjustments.

Proving that he can punish mistakes, Bellinger hit two home runs May 5 at Petco Park in his first start after Adrian Gonzalez went on the disabled list. The next day, Bellinger hit a grand slam.

The lefty-handed hitter’s salvos were part of a 14-for-32 (.438) surge that included five home runs, a triple and a double.

A scout said Bellinger, prone to striking out in the minor leagues, has shortened his swing in the last several months.

Bellinger stands upright and crowds the plate. Scouts recommend inside fastballs — but if the pitch catches too much of the plate, he can hit it more than 400 feet.

The scouting projection is that Bellinger, 21, can become a Gold Glover at first base but also is a capable defender at all three outfield spots.

When the Dodgers played at Coors Field in April, left-hander

Julio Urias worked at their training site in Arizona. The team held the 20-year-old back to shorten his season. This weekend in the series finale, Urias is a candidate to start at Coors Field for the first time. He had an outing there last year and allowed three runs in three innings.
