Questions about Sammy Wat

kins’ durability and the departures of veteran wide receivers Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin and Justin Hunter prompted the Bills to draft Zay Jones in the second round. The rookie from East Carolina has an excellent opportunity to start after a prolific collegiate career in which he established a Division I receiving record with 399 catches. Jones possesses home-run threat speed and plays bigger than his 6-2, 200-pound frame.

He is slated to fill Woods’ No. 2 spot, but that could change if the Bills opt to sign three-time Pro Bowler Anquan Boldin, who is testing the free agent market after a 67-catch, eight-touchdown season with the Detroit Lions.

Even if Watkins remains healthy and Boldin comes aboard, Jones is expected to play a lot because he might become the team’s No. 1 receiver next season should the Bills not extend Watkins’ contract. Rookie watch: OT Dion Dawkins, a second-round pick from Temple, has experience in a zone blocking scheme, which is what the Bills will deploy under new offensive coordinator Rick

Dennison. Dawkins spent time working at left tackle while Cor

dy Glenn rehabbed an ankle injury. Assuming Glenn is recovered, Dawkins will shift to right tackle, where he’ll battle five-year veteran Jordan Mills. Noteworthy: Pro Bowl RG Richie Incognito enjoyed playing for Rex Ryan but said the Bills needed the culture change rookie coach Sean McDermott is attempting to establish. “I don’t think we had a veteran enough group to be able to adapt to Rex’s system and be able to make that work,” Incognito told NFL Network. “So now we have a young and hungry team, and with Coach McDermott coming in and being detail-oriented and holding guys accountable, hopefully that helps us take the next step.”
