Chicago Bears
QB Mike Glennon accomplished just enough in the first half of the Bears’ 24-23 victory against the Arizona Cardinals to quiet the Mitchell Trubisky talk — at least temporarily.
Glennon, one week after registering a 0.0 passer rating, compared with Trubisky’s 103.1 in their Bears debuts, was much better, completing 72.2% of his passes. Glennon threw an interception deep in the red zone and averaged just 4.9 yards per attempt, but he did execute a successful two-minute drive for his first Bears touchdown.
“It’s huge. How you respond is critical,” coach John Fox said of Glennon’s rebound. “This game can go up and down through the whole game, and I thought our guys did a good job finding a way to win the game.”
Although Trubisky’s numbers again were impressive and he showed off his athleticism and arm strength, he took a few huge hits and unnecessary risks.
Rookie watch: RB Tarik Cohen has been the Bears’ most consistent rookie. Cohen, getting the start in Jordan Howard’s absence (minor eye injury), had 77 yards on 11 carries on Aug. 19, including a 25-yard run and two of 16 yards. He continued to churn out extra yards and had a successful blitz pickup. … S Eddie
