The offense again will be motored by the running back combo of Matt Forte and Bilal Powell. The two combined for 1,535 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns and 88 receptions for 651 yards and three more scores. Powell is three years younger and finished with a surge last season, so his workload is expected to increase somewhat.

But Forte, who turns 32 in December, has something left. Making his first preseason start after nursing a strained hamstring, Forte rushed for 43 yards on 10 carries against the New York Giants. He gained several yards after contact.

Powell rushed seven times for 32 yards and caught all four of his targets for 110 yards, including a catch-and-run touchdown of 85 yards. Veteran journeyman

Josh McCown won the quarterback job and will rely on the pair.

Rookie watch: WR Ar-Darius Stewart, a third-round pick, caught five passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow rookie WR Chad Hansen (fourth round) had two catches for 45 yards. Both will get opportunities with WR Quincy Enunwa lost for the season with a neck injury and second-year WR Robby Anderson battling inconsistency.

Noteworthy: The Jets claimed Ealy, cut by the Patriots, and waived/injured DL Anthony Johnson. ... DE Sheldon Rich

Bryce Petty threw for 250 yards and three TD passes before hurting his knee, though he appears to have avoided a serious injury.
