It took a little more than a week and a preseason game for QB Blake Bortles to get his starting job back. After Jacksonville’s 24-23 loss to Carolina, Jaguars coach Doug Marrone named Bortles the starter for Week 1.
Bortles went 12-for-16 for 125 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the game, while
Chad Henne was 8-for-14 for 73 yards. After starting the game, Henne appeared sluggish and was sacked three times. Maybe the benching was the wake-up call Bortles needed to right the ship.
“I don’t know if it can get any worse than that,” Bortles said. “You can roll over and lay down or you can just keep working and grinding and earn that spot.”
