LT Donald Penn reported last week after missing most of the month in a contract dispute.

“It’s good to have him back,” head coach Jack Del Rio said.

There is still no new deal, but Penn said, “We have a great owner, a great GM ( Reggie McKen

zie). I came in here and put my trust in them. I am going to sit here and wait. Control what I can control. I didn’t want to be gone. Nobody wants to be gone. But sometimes you have to do some stuff that you don’t want to do.

“I am happy it is over with, and hopefully we can move forward and get some stuff done, and get this thing rolling. Anything I can do to help my team. I came back for them.”

Penn played 19 snaps in last weekend’s 24-20 loss to Dallas.

Marshall Newhouse started at left tackle and Vadal Alexander at right tackle, but Newhouse is expected to switch to the left side with Penn back.

Rookie watch: On the second day of camp, S Obi Melifon-wu (second round) injured an ankle and didn’t play in the first two preseason games. Last weekend, he played 22 snaps on defense and added 13 on special teams. ... DT Treyvon Hester (seventh round) had a sack, tackle for loss and a quarterback hit. ... Undrafted free-agent LB Nicho

las Morrow played 31 defensive snaps and 12 on special teams.

Noteworthy: Saying “I am locked in,” QB Derek Carr completed 13 of 17 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns for a passer rating of 140.3. WRs Amari Cooper (78 yards) and Cordar

relle Patterson (30 yards) had the touchdowns. Patterson, who doesn’t believe in taking touchbacks, had two kickoff returns for 48 yards. They were from 8 and 6 yards deep and only reached the 19- and 15-yard lines, respectively.
