The Seahawks’ inability to make another Super Bowl run last season was largely attributed to a porous offensive line and the lack of a running game, but it also boiled down to two key injuries.
QB Russell Wilson dealt with knee and ankle injuries for most of the season, and the defense fell apart after S Earl Thomas broke his leg in Week 13.
Both are healthy now, which could push the Seahawks back to the top of the NFC pecking order.
Wilson surrounded himself with personal trainers and dieticians in the offseason. He has been lighting it up in practice and has completed 70.7% of his passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in preseason games.
Thomas, who toyed with retirement, came back sooner than expected and has been at the top of his game. Rookie watch: RB Chris Carson, a largely overlooked seventh-round pick, has made the most of his playing time with injuries to Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise. … WR Amara Darboh has been slowed by a sternum injury and a concussion, and he has yet to catch a pass in a preseason game.
Noteworthy: T Rees Odhiambo is getting the first shot at replacing George Fant at left tackle, but the Seahawks added an insurance policy by trading for backup tackle Matt Tobin from the Philadelphia Eagles. … QB
