Machado came into the week leading the AL with 32 RBI in August, the most by an Orioles batter in any month since Melvin Mora’s 32 in August 2008. In 51 games since July 1, he had a league-leading 47 RBI and was batting .327 with 13 home runs and 35 runs scored. He hit a 12thinning, walk-off homer against the Oakland Athletics on Aug. 23, his 10th homer in August and second walk-off homer in six days — and earned a pie in the face from teammates.
