NOTES
The Zack attack:
Zack Littell of the Class AA Chattanooga (Tenn.) in the Southern League has also pitched for Tampa in the high Class A Florida State League and Trenton (N.J.) in the Class AA Eastern League in 2017. He was traded from the Seattle Mariners organization to the New York Yankees last November, then from the Yankees to the Minnesota Twins in July in the deal that sent starting pitcher Jaime Garcia to the Yankees.
He has moved around a lot, to be sure, but Littell has someplace to call home: the mound.
Littell, 21, is 18-1 over his three
stops in 2017. The 6-4 right-hander, once a 97-mph flamethrower, is more pitcher now (sitting at 92) and has fashioned a 2.15 ERA in 26 games this season (24 starts).
Littell is 4-0 in six starts for the Lookouts, who clinched a spot in the Southern League playoffs.
Brewers scare:
Milwaukee Brewers infielder Julio Mendez suffered a heart attack Aug. 26 when hit in the chest by a pitch while playing for the team’s rookie ball club in the Arizona League.
Mendez, 20, was taken to a local hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition.
Mendez, a native of Venezuela, was struck by a pitch thrown by
Austin Krzeminski of the AZL Angels in the ninth inning in the game played in Tempe, Ariz.
Eyewitness reports indicate he was administered CPR by medical staff on site before being transported to a hospital. The game was not continued after the frightening incident.
“If everyone could do me a favor and say a (prayer) for Julio Mendez, it would really mean a lot,” Krzeminski tweeted.
Mendez was signed by the Brewers in July 2013 and played two seasons with the Dominican Summer League team.
