Bills’ keys to victory: In a matchup as lopsided as this one, Buffalo needs to force lots of turnovers and not commit any. The Bills looked more competent in Week 2, outscoring the Chargers 14-3 in the second half. Rookie QB Josh Allen threw for 245 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. If he turns the ball over against an elite defense, Minnesota’s offense probably will capitalize. Buffalo will need to play mistake-free football and get some luck to pull off the upset.
Vikings’ keys to victory: While the offensive line has been suspect, it would be huge if C Pat Elflein (shoulder, ankle) can return for this game. After Daniel Carlson, a 2018 fifth-round draft pick, missed three field goal tries, including two in overtime, against Green Bay, Minnesota immediately signed former Cowboy Dan Bailey. Bailey’s experience could stabilize the position. In addition, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen are the best one-two wide receiver punch in the league and should create nightmares for a Buffalo defense that has allowed 78 points in the first two weeks.
Matchup to watch: Bills RB LeSean McCoy vs. Vikings’ front seven. The former Pro Bowler has 61 rushing yards through the first two weeks. Things won’t get easier against Everson Griffen, Linval Joseph, Sheldon Richardson and Anthony Barr.
Who wins? The Bills are navigating their way through a tough season with a rookie quarterback, and their challenges will be even more difficult on the road against a much more talented team.
