RAMS STATISTICS

Chargers’ keys to victory: The Chargers have to figure out a way to get pressure on QB Jared Goff in order to throw off the rhythm of the Rams’ potent offense. DE Melvin Ingram is an outstanding pass rusher, but he can’t do it by himself. NT Brandon Mebane needs to push the Rams’ stout offensive line backward, too, with DE Joey Bosa out because of a foot injury. On offense, the Chargers have to control the clock by running the ball consistently with RB Melvin Gordon.
Rams’ keys to victory: Goff was sharp against the Cardinals, putting together a nice bounceback game after struggling against Oakland. The quarterback has to keep that play going against an outstanding Chargers secondary that features CB Casey Hayward and stud rookie safety Derwin James. Goff and WR Brandin Cooks have had a strong connection through the first two weeks, and the Rams have the offensive line to negate the Chargers’ pass rush.
Matchup to watch: Chargers CB Casey Hayward vs. Rams WR Brandin Cooks. Cooks has been electric for the Rams this season, but Hayward is a true shutdown cornerback. This is a marquee matchup between a top wide receiver and cover man.
Who wins? The Rams might be the best team in the NFL right now, and there’s nothing to suggest they’ll slow down against the Chargers. The Rams will move to 3-0 and win this first chapter in the “Fight for L.A.” by beating the Chargers, though not in dominant fashion.
