TOP 5 PROSPECTS

- Alec Dopp

1. Keston Hiura, 2B: Hiura, 22, is a pure hitter with tons of batting average upside. His strong wrists result in line drives and gap power with potentially more to come, though average speed limits his steals impact. He hit .272 with six home runs and 11 steals at Class AA.

2. Corey Ray, OF: Ray broke out at Class AA with 27 home runs and 37 steals last year. He’s an exceptional runner with tools for elite stolen base output, but contact issues might cap his batting average upside. The 24-year-old is a 25HR/25-SB type of talent.

3. Brice Turang, SS: A first-round pick in the 2018 draft, Turang had a quality pro debut (.283 batting average, 14 steals in 42 games). He’s a plus runner who produces line-drive contact, and at just 19, the power should come. Turang could reach full-season Class A this year.

4. Joe Gray, OF: Gray, 18, has loud tools but is not yet a finished product. His bat speed through the zone should provide future home run value. And while contact has been an issue, he runs well and should steal bases. He profiles best in right field long term and should start at extended spring training.

5. Tristen Lutz, OF: Lutz’s production was so-so in his first full season; he hit .245 with 13 homers in 119 games at low Class A. He is a good athlete with plus power and could have sneaky steal ability as well. The 20-year-old will jump to high A, where he’ll need to make more consistent contact.
