Eagles’ keys to victory: Philadelphia needs to figure out its pass defense, and soon. In Week 6 the Eagles allowed the Minnesota Vikings to throw to all parts of the field from the opening drive through the end of the game. Outside of an inept New York Jets offense led by backup QB Luke Falk, the Eagles have allowed an average of 324 passing yards in the other five games. On offense, QB Carson Wentz has been solid while leading a potent passing attack.
Cowboys’ keys to victory: A slew of injuries has depleted the Dallas offense. LT Tyron Smith missed the last two games, and RT La’el Collins was out for the Week 6 loss. Their lack of health led to target practice on QB Dak Prescott, who then lost WR Amari Cooper to a quad injury on the first series in the loss to the New York Jets. Dallas is also banged up in the secondary, so no matter how good DE Robert Quinn, an offseason trade acquisition, has been (five sacks), the coverage is a concern. CBs Byron Jones and Anthony Brown left the Week 6 game because of hamstring injuries. The pressure has to be relentless to keep QB Carson Wentz contained.
Matchup to watch: Eagles DT Fletcher Cox vs. Cowboys C Travis Frederick. The Eagles’ all-pro got a year off from having to face the league’s best center, but after missing all of 2018, Frederick is back.
Who wins? Both teams are struggling, but things certainly feel more dire for Dallas after losing three in a row. The Cowboys escape with the NFC East lead, but barely.
