Dolphins’ keys to victory: The Dolphins were 0-7 when they picked up their first win of the season against the Jets, embarrassing them and former head coach Adam Gase in Miami with a 26-18 victory. Miami sacked Jets QB Sam Darnold three times, had nine QB hits and also played a cleaner game than its division rival, coughing up zero turnovers and committing nearly half as many penalties as New York. When two bad teams are on the field, things like that make all of the difference.
Jets’ keys to victory: Gang Green’s loss to Miami was rock bottom, but the Jets then won three in a row before getting blown out by the previously winless Cincinnati Bengals last week. QB Sam Darnold has played much better recently, and the offensive line has provided him with adequate protection despite a bevy of injuries. The improved play in the trenches has allowed RB Le’Veon Bell to contribute more in the backfield. On the other side of the ball, coordinator Gregg Williams has found a way to keep his defense competitive with no-name starters.
Matchup to watch: Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki vs. Jets’ defense. Gesicki didn’t score against the Jets the first time these two played, but he did have six catches on six targets for 95 yards with LB James Burgess covering him. The Jets might want to try something different on defense this time.
Who wins? The Jets can’t lose to this Dolphins team twice, right? Right!? After a beatdown in Miami, expect Gase and his team to be locked in at home.
