Eagles at (6-7) Redskins (3-10)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, FedEx Field, Landover, Maryland
TV: Fox
Danny Sheridan’s line: Eagles by 6
Eagles’ keys to victory: The Eagles have had an extremely disappointing season but aren’t out of the playoff picture just yet, and a victory over the Redskins is vital to Philadelphia’s hopes of winning the weak NFC East. Washington’s secondary has improved, but it still can be solved by QB Carson Wentz. If the Eagles’ offensive line gives Wentz time to throw, he likely will be able to take advantage of a banged-up Redskins defense.
Redskins’ keys to victory: They will need to find the holes in Philadelphia’s secondary, which has been suspect this season. If QB Dwayne Haskins can find a rhythm and connect with rookie WR Terry McLaurin, who torched the Eagles in Week 1 (five catches for 125 yards and a touchdown), Washington has a chance to stay in the game. Though Washington might be without RB Derrius Guice, it can lean on veteran RB Adrian Peterson to keep the ground game moving the chains.
Matchup to watch: Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery vs. Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar. The Eagles are thin at wide receiver, and those who have played haven’t played well. Jeffery will likely be matched up with Dunbar, who is having an outstanding season. If he can take away the Eagles’ No. 1 option, the Philadelphia offense could have a tough afternoon.
Who wins? The Eagles have a major incentive to win, and the Redskins have a major incentive to lose. The NFC East is still open at the top, and at some point Philadelphia has to make a move at the playoffs. The Eagles can’t afford to miss out on an easy win.
