Information: 480-350-5265; Angelsbaseball.com/spring Prospect to watch: Jo Adell, OF.

Adell is a freak athlete with plus tools across the board. He has elite raw power to all fields and is a plus runner, though he needs to fortify his contact skills. The 20-year-old should be in the majors later this year.

Anthony Rendon was firmly in the NL MVP race for much of 2019. Now, he’s in the American League and expected to have the back of the resident MVP, Mike Trout, rather than win the trophy himself. But let’s not sleep on Rendon, who ranks second only to Trout in position player Wins Above Replacement (WAR) over the past five seasons.

Rendon, a third baseman, is expected to make their infield defense much better and provide significant thump behind Trout. Ideally, he outperforms him.

Rendon had his best big-league season in 2019, setting career high in homers (34) and RBI (126) while surpassing his previous career batting average (.290) by 24 points and OPS (.830) by 180 points.

Maddon, who managed the Angels on a part-time basis in 1996 and 1999, has a record of 1,252-1,068 but also has nine seasons with 90 or more wins. He was 471-339 in fives seasons with the Cubs.
