BURNING QUESTIONS

- – Justin Toscano, North Jersey Record

Did the Mets improve enough?

Mets fans begged to be in on top-tier free agents and blockbuster trades. Their wishes did not come true.

Instead, the Mets made marginal upgrades. They’ve discussed how confident they feel in their current roster, which features a potentially elite rotation and a young core of talented position players.

We will know the answer to this question soon. The Mets will hit the field and we’ll see if they are exposed by their division rivals and other apparent contenders around the NL, or if they are for real.

How will Luis Rojas do as manager?

The Mets had a wild offseason. In a way, it felt like they never left after playing their last game in September.

They fired Mickey Callaway and hired Carlos Beltrán, then parted ways with Beltrán for his role in the Astros’ signstealing scandal. Weeks before spring training, they needed a new manager.

Enter Luis Rojas, who is well-respected throughout the organization. He climbed the ladder in impressive fashion, earning respect from those he worked with along the way.

He has said he won’t be overmatched. He doesn’t think he’ll be at a disadvantage. He’s confident in his ability to lead the 2020 Mets.

But New York is a ruthless market. Managers are picked apart for their every move — fair or not.

The Mets are excited to have him at the helm, though. He has tons of minor league managerial experience that should make him ready for this job.
