Longtime tight end retires after 14 seasons
After 14 seasons in the NFL, tight end Greg Olsen is calling it a career. The 14-year tight end announced his retirement Sunday during Fox’s pregame coverage of the NFC championship game.
Olsen also revealed he will join the network as an analyst, an agreement he’d reached prior to his final season in the league when he played for the Seattle Seahawks.
“Proud of what I was able to accomplish, proud of the relationships, everything that this game has given me, but sometimes, when it’s time, it’s time,” Olsen said. “And my time in the NFL has come to an end. I’m excited for the next chapter. I’m excited that that chapter involves the Fox family.”
Host Curt Menefee said Olsen will be in the broadcast booth next season. He worked as a color commentator alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt during XFL games in February/March 2020, and it’s expected the two will work together moving forward.
During the 2019 season, Olsen called a game during his bye week and did the same in 2017.
