Titans’ keys to victory: Tennessee would be wise to pick on New York’s young secondary. QB Ryan Tannehill has two seasoned star wideouts at his disposal in Julio Jones and A.J. Brown. (Brown has a hamstring injury and his status for the game was unknown at press time.) Outside of veteran safety Marcus Maye, New York’s defensive backfield has less than minimal experience against pass catchers of that caliber. The young corners, led by second-year player Bryce Hall, have held up well early this season, but the Titans present the group’s toughest test yet.
Jets’ keys to victory: The New York secondary could have a tough time, but stopping Tennessee’s run game won’t be easy, either. The Jets have allowed more than 100 yards rushing in each game this season, and they have yet to face a running back like Derrick Henry. Given the Titans’ variety of weapons, Zach Wilson and the Jets may need to keep up in a shootout if they hope to win this game at home.
Matchup to watch: Titans’ Henry vs. the Jets’ run defense. Like their offense, the Jets’ run defense has been disappointing. Denver’s Melvin Gordon III and rookie RB Javonte Williams both punched in touchdowns in Week 3, and Tennessee’s receivers are banged up. That means Henry and the Titans are poised to run the ball down New York’s throat.
Who wins? The Titans have too much firepower. The Jets’ overall defense has been solid this season, but the unit won’t get enough help from the offense.
