Bet on Texas vs. OU and two road favorites

- Ryan Bloomfield

Top wagering picks for college football Week 6 based on lines from Tipico Sportsbook:

No. 4 Penn State (5-0) at No. 3 Iowa (5-0)

The marquee matchup of the week features two top-five Big Ten teams. Both teams are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) this year; the Nittany Lions have a slightly more impressive resume with a win over Auburn under their belts. Penn State has the better offense here, but Iowa’s defense (271.4 yards allowed per game; seventh best in the nation) will be the best unit on the field. We’ll lean to the home favorite in what should be a tight game.

Pick: Iowa -2.5

No. 5 Oklahoma (5-0) vs. No. 23 Texas (4-1)

Oklahoma is the higher-ranked team and beat Texas in each of the last three seasons, so why bet the Longhorns? First, Oklahoma is just 1-4 ATS this season with razor-thin wins over Kansas State (37-31), West Virginia (16-13), Nebraska (23-16) and Tulane (40-35). Second, Texas is hitting its stride on offense, averaging 53.3 points per game over its last three games, all of which covered the spread. Look for Texas to keep this close, or even win outright. Pick: Texas +3.5

No. 1 Alabama (5-0) at Texas A&M (3-2)

Alabama is coming off an impressive blowout of Ole Miss in a game that was over by halftime (28-0). Texas A&M, meanwhile, is 1-2 ATS since it lost starting QB Haynes King to a leg injury in Week 2. The offense has averaged just 14 points per game in three Power 5 matchups since King’s injury. Alabama has won this matchup by an average of 23 points over the last three seasons and is hitting on all cylinders. Pick: Alabama -17.5

No. 13 Notre Dame (4-1) at Virginia Tech (3-1)

Notre Dame is coming off its first loss of the season, 24-13 to Cincinnati at home last week. The defense has improved throughout the year, but Notre Dame’s woeful offensive line play has limited it to just 5.1 yards per play (101st in the nation). Virginia Tech’s offense has been just as bad (5.0 yards per play), most recently mustering just two TDs on offense against a Football Championship Subdivision team (Richmond) in its last game. Look for the Irish to prevail in a low-scoring affair. Pick: Notre Dame -1.5
