Patriots’ keys to victory: The battle of rookie quarterbacks likely will come down to which one of them makes the fewest mistakes. QB Mac Jones, who nearly beat Tampa Bay in passing fro 275 yards and two touchdowns, will have to be more of a game manager and not drive the ball downfield, preferring to accept the checkdown. RB Damien Harris and the run game must ignite to provide dual dimensions for the Patriots offense, which rushed for minus-1 yards vs. Tampa Bay. TE Jonnu Smith historically has had success against Houston, and New England should seek to utilize his speed.

Texans’ keys to victory: Houston’s defense can generate takeaways with six on the season, five of them interceptions. S Justin Reid has been an impact player on the back end and will need to force a takeaway. Rookie QB Davis Mills has had to shoulder the offense the past two games. RBs Mark Ingram and David Johnson need to have big days to give their harried young signal-caller a break.

Matchup to watch: Patriots CB J.C. Jackson vs. Texans WR Brandin Cooks. The former Patriot started the season with two 100yard receiving games through his first four games. If Jackson shuts down Cooks, the rookie quarterback will hold the ball longer, resulting in sacks.

Who wins? The Patriots have the greatest coach in the game, while Houston has a rookie coach. The Texans are also starting a rookie quarterback. New England has a talent and experience surplus that leads to a convincing win.

Patriots, 27-12
