Taylor means you can take Texans vs. spread

- Ken Pomponio

Top wagering picks for NFL Week 8 based on lines from Tipico Sportsbook:

Panthers at Falcons

Two NFC South foes trending in opposite directions meet in Atlanta. The 3-4 Panthers have dropped four straight after a 3-0 start while the Falcons have won three of their last four to reach 3-3.

Carolina is still without its top offensive weapon in Christian McCaffrey, and QB Sam Darnold has been unable to pick up the slack with two TD passes and five interceptions over the last three games.

Veteran QB Matt Ryan, meanwhile, has had 10 TD tosses and just one pick in Atlanta’s last four contests, so go with the FALCONS (-2.5) laying less than a field goal at home.

Rams at Texans

These teams are on the opposite ends of the won-loss spectrum with LA 6-1 and Houston 1-6, but only a game separates their ATS records with the Rams 4-3 and the Texans 3-4.

More notably, veteran QB Tyrod Taylor likely will be back for the Texans after a five-week hamstring injury absence, and the 29 points Houston averaged in his two starts are a far sight better than the brutal 7.8 points the Texans have averaged in the five games with Davis Mills at the helm.

That should be enough for the cover with the TEXANS (+14.5) getting more than two TDs at home.

Cowboys at Vikings

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys bring the league’s only unblemished (6-0) ATS record into a game at Minnesota. The Vikings have won three of their last four.

However, Kirk Cousins and Co. have prevailed by the thinnest of margins in their most recent two outings, beating the still-winless Lions 19-17 on a 54-yard field goal on the final play and outlasting the spiraling Panthers 34-28 in overtime.

This should be another tight contest with both teams fresh off their bye weeks, but we’ll side with the better team in the COWBOYS (-2.5) laying less than a field goal.

2021 record: 13-8
