Eagles’ keys to victory: Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts has been inconsistent in racking up yards through the air this season, but that could change against an inexperienced and depleted Jets secondary, so long as the second-year pro stays away from CB Bryce Hall. But if an aerial attack doesn’t work, the Jets have not had much luck stopping the run, and Hurts is as mobile as they come under center. He has rushed for 50 or more yards in six consecutive games and had three rushing touchdowns Nov. 21 against the Saints.
Jets’ keys to victory: New York will face a bottom-third defense without leading rusher Michael Carter. The rookie is on injured reserve with an ankle injury, giving Ty Johnson and Tevin Coleman another prime opportunity to make an impact out of New York’s backfield. Considering the Eagles defend better against the pass, the Jets’ running backs may be the determining factor.
Matchup to watch: Eagles WR DeVonta Smith vs. Jets’ Hall. Smith has enjoyed a splendid rookie campaign, while Hall has blossomed into a worthy No. 1 corner in his second NFL season. Smith is small with electric speed; Hall (6-foot-1, 202) is bigger bodied and physical, making this an intriguing matchup in the secondary.
Who wins? The Eagles have more firepower and a few different ways of attacking a defense with plenty of holes. Philadelphia improves to 12-0 all time against the Jets and wins in another trip to MetLife Stadium after a Week 12 loss to the Giants.
