Remembering the ‘Iron Lady’
MARGARET THATCHER 1925-2013
Margaret Thatcher, the first female British prime minister, died of a stroke Monday. She was 87.
Margaret Thatcher was an amazing woman, both for her time and all time. Condolences to all who mourn her passing.
Lyle Stavast
A true leader and staunch ally of the United States. Together, she and President Ronald Reagan pulled the world back from the brink of the Cold War.
In the process, they stimulated the economies of both countries for growth and prosperity.
These are rare achievements in modern times.
John James
On one hand, she is to be admired for her steadfast determination in becoming the first female prime minister of Great Britain.
On the other hand, some of her conservative policies were quite harmful, and in fact, she was soundly rejected for replacing property taxes with a “poll tax” on all adults in a community that hurt many middle-class families. No matter. She is in the history books, and may she rest in peace.
John Petz
Thatcher’s biggest legacies were sowing the seeds for the privatization of the school system, and raising taxes on the poor and middle class while lowering taxes on the rich and corporations.
Graig Earle
People can say a whole lot about Thatcher, but no sensible person can deny her intelligence, wit and influence. The fact is that she was Britain’s first female prime minister, serving from 1979 to 1990.
She stood up to totalitarianism and was a force one did not want to reckon with. She was truly a transformative and vital leader of our time.
Like her or hate her, the Iron Lady has her place cemented in the history books.
Sassan K. Darian
I didn’t always agree with her, but at least you knew where she stood. She wasn’t afraid to let you know where that was.
Adam Smith
Despite her controversial way of ruling Britain, one can’t deny that she was still a great leader during her time.
