The Games claim victory

MEASURE OF SUCCESS

Don’t focus on medal count. Focus on the hard work of every athlete worldwide who trained for years to become an Olympian. This shouldn’t be about country vs. country; it’s about the human spirit of competition.

I cheered for many athletes of all countries. Hopefully, these events bring us closer together, not further apart.

Why do so many in the USA always expect that the country should be No. 1? I think it might sometimes be a good thing to have the USA’s arrogance and ego deflated. It’s almost as if people think Americans are superhuman. Welcome to the real world.

Frankly, a disappointing showing by the United States.

It’s back to the drawing board for speedskating, figure skating, hockey and Nordic skiing.

The main bright spots were bob sled, trick skiing/snow- boarding and Ted Ligety’s gold in the giant slalom.

A WIN FOR RUSSIA

Congratulations, Russia, for presenting a great series of games in a safe environment, as unfortunate as all the precautions needed to be.

Paul Curtin

Congratulations to the Sochi Games for “pulling it off.” Unfortunately, the terrorists always win with intimidation and the possibility of attacks. We win by living a normal life and staying aware of threats 24/7. We must stay strong and always on alert.

Mark Frederickson

These Olympics, beginning with the mind-blowing pageantry of the opening ceremony that had us glued to our TVs, exhibited the obvious pride that the Russian people have for their country, history and athletes.

The Games give us honest examples of the deepest of human emotion possible in such a short time span that we feel sad when the closing ceremonies come way too soon.
