BECKHAM BUNGLES
In honor of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison’s bold stance, our weekly award for NFL players and coaches who didn’t even deserve a participation trophy in Week 15: ODELL BECKHAM JR. The New York Giants superstar dropped a sure touchdown early. He committed three major penalties. And he put himself before his team the entire day against the (still) unbeaten Carolina Panthers. Just completely out of control. Not a nice look for Beckham or the Giants. BUFFALO BILLS Our first team award. They didn’t show up in Washington on Sunday. To think they said they were ready to challenge the New England Patriots before the season. Now the Bills won’t be punching playoff tickets for the 16th consecutive year. MATT CASSEL Enough is enough. Even the Dallas Cowboys must think so by now after benching him Saturday. Before going to the sideline, Cassel threw an interception on the same play he was penalized for intentional grounding. VERNON DAVIS The Denver Broncos tight end had his second big drop in two weeks. This featured “alligator arms” because he would have gotten hit like, well, like tight ends get hit. It ended a drive with about seven minutes left with the score tied. The Pittsburgh Steelers took advantage in a game Denver needed. He has to make that catch. He used to make it. ERIC MANGINI We know you can play only with the pieces you’re given, but the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator has turned Johnny Manziel and AJ McCarron into Pro Bowl quarterbacks the last two weeks.
