68TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS ABC, SUNDAY, 8 ET/5 PT

While we can’t know in advance who’ll win the Emmys, there are a few things we can count on. Watching any pre-show, from ABC’s official Countdown to the Emmy Awards: Red Carpet Live (7 ET/4 PT) to — heaven forbid — E!’s reliably idiotic coverage (6 ET/3 PT), will raise your blood pressure and lower your IQ. Host Jimmy Kimmel will say at least one thing that will light up Twitter, for and against him: The show will run too long; the inmemoriam segment will leave out someone you love; and an Emmy will go to someone you hate. So brace yourself.

THE CASE OF: JONBENET RAMSEY CBS, SUNDAY 8:30 ET/8 PT

In this latest exercise in trial-bymedia, investigators re-examine the unsolved murder of JonBenet Ramsey while “introducing new theories” — a worrisome phrase if ever there was one. It’s one thing to use the power of the press to show that an imprisoned person might have been wrongly convicted. But to use it to allege that a so-far uncharged person may be guilty? To be OK with that, you have to have a lot more faith in modern journalism than I do.
