Kings of Leon don’t ‘Waste a Moment’

- Maeve McDermott

After transitioning away from gritty indie rock for a sleeker, more pop-oriented sound on 2013’s Mechanical Bull, Kings of Leon enlisted Markus Dravs, the producer behind stadium-size albums from Arcade Fire and Coldplay, for their forthcoming album Walls (out Oct. 14). Our first taste of their collaboration is promising lead single Waste A

Moment, which pairs the band’s trademark knotty guitars and snarled vocals with a hi-fi sheen. The chorus’ soaring harmonies recall another one of Dravs’ success stories: Mumford and Sons’ breakout debut Sigh No More. Will Kings of Leon shoot for Coldplay-style pop on Walls or attempt the rootsy folk of Mumford’s early successes? Expect a mix of both.
