GEORGE WASHINGTON NAMES INTERIM COACH
George Washington named Maurice Joseph its interim head men’s basketball coach Tuesday, a few weeks after firing Mike Lonergan in light of findings from an investigation into verbal and emotional abuse. Lonergan is taking legal action for wrongful termination, his lawyers said. Joseph, who played at Michigan State and Vermont, has been a member of GW’s coaching staff for the past five seasons. The Colonials are coming off a National Invitation Tournament championship season and are projected to finish near the top of the Atlantic 10 standings in 2016-17, according to USA TODAY Sports preseason projections.
