THE HARRISONS

- Chris D’Amico

In honor of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison’s bold stance, our award for players and coaches who didn’t even deserve a participation trophy for Week 8:

CARDINALS OFFENSIVE LINE So the story this season has been how Carolina can’t get pressure on quarterbacks. Then the Panthers see this group. Eight sacks! Just 24 rushing yards. Three running plays don’t even make it back to the line of scrimmage. Arizona QB Carson Palmer was bad enough without you guys forgetting to come to work. The Panthers want to know whether you can also hang out next Sunday.

JUDE ADJEI-BARIMAH, BUCCANEERS As if his defensive holding penalty in the end zone with 1:43 to go that gave the Raiders the chance to tie the score wasn’t enough, he had the coverage and one of the missed tackles on their winning touchdown in overtime. Even by Bucs’ standards, that’s not a good day at the office.

DUSTIN HOPKINS, REDSKINS The team flies you all the way to London to do one job. And it probably would have flown you back first class if you had hit that 34-yard field goal attempt to win the game in overtime. You missed. But we don’t want to blame you for the loss, because big, bad Josh Norman said if we blamed you for the loss: “I think you suck. You know nothing about football. If you put this game on him, you’re terrible.” OK, so maybe we should look for a cornerback who was called for five penalties. Just kidding. We’re blaming the kicker.

MIKE NUGENT, BENGALS Man, is Hopkins angry at you. If you hadn’t blown that extra point — an extra point! — in the third quarter, the Bengals would have defeated the Redskins in regulation, and Hopkins would have never tried that kick in overtime. Maybe you two can talk about it as you paddle back from London.
