Pro-life tactics can be sneaky, irresponsible

Overturning “Roe v. Wade” is not the only threat to reproductive rights for women under a Donald Trump administration, as noted in Rich Wolf ’s article, “Can President Trump undermine abortion rights? Not so fast.” In fact, there is a dangerous and long list of attacks that will restrict access to abortion, birth control and basic reproductive health care.

President-elect Trump may cut the purse strings that make funding women’s reproductive health care a reality by reinstating and preserving bans on abortion funding here and abroad without exceptions for rape, incest or life of the woman. Overturning the Affordable Care Act could also limit access to free and affordable contraception for millions of women and girls.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence championed the effort to defund Planned Parenthood and has championed shutting down family planning clinics that serve poor and vulnerable women.

We don’t have to wonder what the impacts of these dangerous policies will be. When access to reproductive rights is restricted and budget for family planning is slashed, contraception use declines and the rates of unsafe abortions increase. What Trump, Pence and anti-choice politicians have shown is that you don’t have to remove the law that makes abortion legal. You can simply make it inaccessible. Abortion is used as a tool to get the votes of weak-minded Americans. Republicans have the House, Senate and presidency and still, it ain’t gonna happen. Wise up, fellow Americans. Delores Kirkwood

I just don’t think Donald Trump is going to bother with this or change anything associated with gays and lesbians. I believe he realizes that there are far more important things to address Ken Netzel
