-

8:50 a.m.: The second wave, consisting of 167 planes, attacks. U.S. forces, now prepared, respond with heavy anti-aircraft fire.

8:55-9 a.m.: Japanese bombers attack Ford Island and Bellows Field, shooting down a B-17 with two U.S. pilots attempting to take off. Other attack planes strafe Kaneohe. 9:05 a.m.: Bombers return to Hickam Field for an eight-minute assault. 9:06 a.m.: Attackers bomb the battleship USS Pennsylvania and two destroyers in dry dock. 9:07 a.m.: The USS Nevada, hit by a torpedo in the first wave, prepares to leave the harbor when it is peppered by bombs. The crew runs it aground near the harbor entrance to prevent it from sinking in deeper water.

9:10 a.m.: Defenders are told to cease firing on B-17s trying to land at Hickam Field. The planes, nearly out of fuel from the flight from California, have nowhere else to go. 9:20 a.m.: The USS Honolulu is damaged by a bomb that crashes through a nearby dock and explodes underwater. Sailors stand amid wrecked planes at Ford Island as the USS Shaw explodes.

9:30 a.m.: A series of bombs ignite powder magazines and blow the bow off the USS Shaw, moored in a floating dry dock.

9:30 a.m.: The USS St. Louis leaves the harbor and later sinks a Japanese midget submarine that fired two torpedoes at her. 9:45 a.m.: The last Japanese attackers withdraw. A third wave of attacks is considered but rejected.
