Quite a weekend

Destiny Littleton is named a McDonald’s All American and sets a California record

Destiny Littleton said she woke up Sunday morning with a different feeling, but “I can’t really describe it.” Expect something similar Monday morning.

Saturday, Littleton became the leading scorer in the history of California high school girls basketball with 3,838 points, eclipsing the mark of Charde Houston (San Diego High, 2000-04). Houston went on to play for Connecticut and seven years in the WNBA.

“It was a great night Saturday night, and to wake up being No. 1 seems like a dream,” Littleton said.

Then Sunday night, the 5-9 guard from Bishop’s School (La Jolla) was named a McDonald’s All American as the rosters were revealed for the March game at United Center in Chicago.

While she expected she would become the state scoring leader — needing 30 points entering a 7247 victory against Ramona in the MLK Hoopfest, the McDonald’s honor is never certain.

“I was nervous but confident in what I’ve produced,” she said.

In between, she got a congratulatory phone call from Dick Vitale that she tweeted was “honestly the most exciting thing ever to happen.”

Littleton is one of two Southern California signees named to the game, joining Ayanna Clark, a 6-1 center from Long Beach Poly.

UConn, Texas, Stanford, Baylor and Louisville also will be represented by two All Americans.

Tennessee leads with four signees: Rennia Davis from Ribault (Jacksonville), Anastasia Hayes from Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Kasiyahna Kushkituah from Saint Francis (Alpharetta, Ga.) will play for the East. Evina Westbrook from South Salem (Ore.) will play for the West.

The 24 players represent 13 states. Texas led the way with six. California was next in line with four.
