Democrats, don’t be sore losers, please

I’m curious to read opinion writers’ thoughts regarding the fact that all of these Democrats are deciding not to come to the inauguration. What image are we portraying of America to the rest of the world? Regardless of how anyone feels, Donald Trump is still the president-elect. He was elected by a process that we as a nation hold dear and, in fact, take oaths to defend.

I tell colleagues who have trouble with their superiors that they may not respect their supervisor, but they must respect the position. The process that put Trump in office, many have died for.

To not be present for the inauguration is to dishonor those who fell defending that process, and quite frankly, just childish. Chris Brown Canton, Ga. Scratching my head trying to understand the logic of Rep. John Lewis calling Trump’s election “illegitimate.”

During the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton was anointed as the Democratic nominee, while Trump battled his way through the Republican primaries in a field of a dozen or more candidates.

Leaked Democratic Party emails showed that the Democratic National Committee was favoring Clinton over Sen. Bernie Sanders during the primaries. And, as if Clinton wasn’t flawed enough, there were the Benghazi scandal, private email scandal and the Clinton Foundation scandal.

Democrats spent their money and still couldn’t push their candidate ahead of Trump.

And now Lewis, in a last bit of desperation, calls Trumps victory illegitimate.

Excuse me Lewis, I thought the civil rights movement was about equality in America. Not running a corrupt election, then taking your toys home and not wanting to play anymore because things didn’t go your way. Chris Black Grapevine, Texas
