Gorsuch is playing the game to get confirmed

In a private meeting with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch is said to have called President Trump’s attacks on a federal appeals court judge “demoralizing” and “disheartening.”
Well, the honeymoon is over, and Trump’s own nominee has spoken out against his outrageous condemnation of judges and courts. I guess Gorsuch and Trump won’t be buddies after all! Good, another potential justice who thinks for himself. Don K. Carlon
This does not necessarily mean Gorsuch’s proving to be a “centrist” judge. It probably just means that he’s got manners and a respect for institutions that the agitator in chief lacks on all levels. With Chief Justice John Roberts being the only semi-moderate of the conservatives on the Supreme Court, we’d better hope that Justices Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are going to hang around for a while. David Hoeltje
Careful what you say, Gorsuch, or you’ll be the subject of a scathing Twitter attack from Hugo Chavez ... I mean, Trump. Shaun Rollins
I don’t approve of Gorsuch, but wouldn’t lose much sleep over him getting confirmed. I’d rather Trump had named Merrick Garland, but Gorsuch should be moderate enough. He lives in Boulder, Colo., a rather liberal area, so he can’t have too narrow a view with people around him likely having a liberal slant. Vicki Venhuizen
Any time these jokers play one hand, make sure to pay attention to what the other hand is doing. Gorsuch has just masterfully set himself up to avoid many uncomfortable questions to come in the nomination process. Chas Holman
Most people would agree the justice system has overstepped its bounds in judicial activism. Scott Pfeiffer
Gorsuch is just lying to get confirmed. Trump wouldn’t have nominated Gorsuch if he weren’t a bootlicker. Those are the rules for his club. Keith Hays

We asked our followers whether it’s appropriate for Neil Gorsuch to say President Trump’s attack on judges are “disheartening.”
Appropriate. Judges should not be partisan when it comes to law, nor are they tools for the executive branch. @Steftyem
I think this whole spat is a distraction to move Gorsuch’s confirmation to the Supreme Court quickly. @Jacquiklein
Our president should always be able to take constructive criticism. I believe what Gorsuch said was appropriate. @SydneyBee97
Trump doesn’t like any negative comments about himself, his family or anything. He is an egotistical monster. @JeanneB1962
Unquestionably, yes. @jmeijers
