Five players wait for a major win

- Roxanna Scott

Now that Sergio Garcia has his first green jacket, here’s a look at some of the top players who have never won a major:

RICKIE FOWLER

World golf ranking: 9

Age: 28 Fowler was one off the lead heading in the final round of the Masters on Sunday and went out with Jordan Spieth in the next-tolast pairing. Fowler shot 40 on the back nine and tied for 11th place. In the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, Fowler played with eventual champion Martin Kaymer in the final pairing Sunday and shot 72 to tie for second. It was his best showing at the U.S. Open. He also played in the final group Sunday at the 2014 British Open at Royal Liverpool, shooting 67 and along with Garcia tied for second to Rory McIlroy. That year, Fowler became the first to claim top-five finishes in all four majors since Tiger Woods in 2005. He won the 2015 Players Championship.

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA

World golf ranking: 4

Age: 25 Matsuyama shot a final-round 67 at Augusta National this year to tie for 11th. The winner of four PGA Tour titles, who turned pro in 2013, has a long career of majors in front of him. He got into contention at the 2016 Masters but shot 73 in the final round and tied for seventh. He tied for fourth that year at the PGA Championship. In 2015, he was fifth at the Masters, shooting 66 on Sunday.

MATT KUCHAR

World golf ranking: 17 Age: 38 After tying for fourth Sunday at the Masters, Kuchar has four top-10 finishes at the tournament since 2012. We’ll always remember his ace on No. 16 in the final round. In 2012, he was tied for the lead at Augusta with three holes remaining but bogeyed the next hole. While Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen went to a playoff, Kuchar finished in a tie for third. Kuchar has seven PGA Tour wins, with the last one coming at the 2014 RBC Heritage. He shot a 63 in the final round of the 2016 Olympic tournament in Rio to take bronze.

LEE WESTWOOD

World golf ranking: 52

Age: 43 In 2016, Westwood tied for second with Jordan Spieth, finishing three shots behind Masters champion Danny Willett. He became one of three English players to finish in the top five at Augusta National that year, joining Willett and Paul Casey. In 2010, he was solo runner-up at Augusta to winner Phil Mickelson. In 2013, he held a two-stroke lead going into the final round of the British Open. But he shot 75 on Sunday, leaving him tied for third and four shots behind Mickelson, who won with a final-round 66 at Muirfield. Westwood has 11 top-five finishes at majors and has finished in the top three nine times.

BRANDT SNEDEKER

World golf ranking: 25

Age: 36 The winner of eight PGA Tour titles was the 2012 FedExCup champion. In 2013, Snedeker had a share of the Masters lead after three rounds, but a final-round 75 left him in a tie for sixth. In 2012, he tied for third in the British Open, playing his first 40 holes without a bogey. Ernie Els won the Claret Jug that year, and Snedeker shared third place with Tiger Woods. In his first Masters start as a pro in 2008, Snedeker was tied for the lead on Sunday after an eagle on No. 2 before his round fell apart with eight bogeys over 16 holes. He tied for third.
