MAGIC NUMBER 261
Bib number worn by Kathrine Switzer, 70, in Monday’s Boston Marathon — the same number she wore 50 years ago when she became the first woman to officially compete in and finish the event. The number was retired after Monday’s race. She finished in 4:44:31. Her struggle against sexism in the 1967 marathon led her to start 261 Fearless, a foundation established to support women as they “take on their personal challenges through running or walking.”
