Cut taxes, but be sure the economy will soar

-

LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

The latest attempt by President Trump to pull the wool over the eyes of Americans comes through what should be called the “Trump family further enrichment tax reform plan.” His proposal is a thinly veiled effort to pad the wealth of real estate developers like himself and those of vast means. Did anyone truly believe that Trump would look out for the interests of the “forgotten Americans”?

Why should the president think he couldn’t get away with this plan? Independent economic forecasts have the nearly $20 trillion national debt the president railed against increasing massively if his plan becomes effective. But not to worry, the administration tells us: Deficits will be no longer because the economic growth will cover the shortfalls.

One of the many big lies told by the administration was Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s insistence that the Trump tax plan will target the middle class.

We will see whether Republicans’ lip service to reducing deficits and national debt applies to a president of their own party. If the president gets away with successfully pushing his convoluted version of tax reform, he can get away with virtually anything. Oren M. Spiegler Upper Saint Clair, Pa.

Bravo and kudos to Trump for proposing the “biggest tax cut in history,” which is designed to keep more money in consumers’ pockets and cut tax rates for corporations, thus mak- ing America more competitive in the global marketplace.

It’s clear that Trump believes in the paradoxical truth proclaimed by President Kennedy that “the soundest way to raise revenue in the long run is to cut (tax) rates now.”

With energy independence in the form of pipelines, an infrastructure bill in the works, the building of the border wall, repealing and replacing the jobkilling Obamacare and now this massive tax cut plan that would make both Kennedy and President Reagan proud, President Trump is determined — against great political opposition — to make the American economy greater and more potent than it’s ever been.

Trump has all the pieces in place to become this nation’s greatest president. Eudgene Dunn Medford, N.Y.
