The Middle goes off on multiple flights of fancy Tuesday — and while some of them may strike regular viewers as a bit too fanciful, the payoff at the end is worth the ride. While Frankie, Mike and Brick benefit from a curb-painting mistake and Axl battles to graduate, Sue faces an existential crisis: For the first time in her life, she feels her year was “meh.” (“This is serious,” Brad says. “I never heard you ‘meh’ about anything.”) When a trip back to high school depresses her further, it’s up to Brad to save the day with a La La Land song and dance.
