I’m a lifelong Republican, but the

party left me when it became more concerned about securing President Obama’s failure than in choosing a competent candidate for president who understands how government works.

The U.S. needs heroes. So I ask the following people to step up:

Vice President Pence, you are my first choice for hero status. How many times are you going to appear to be the patsy? Resign and say that for the good of the union, you cannot remain a part of this charade.

President Trump, you are my second choice. You proved that you could become president; you proved that you could launch a sound campaign and that you won fair and square. You are a successful businessman. Return to your area of expertise and let others who have better governing skills take the reins.

You two gentleman could go down in history as heroes who truly understand what is at stake: the ability of our government to function as outlined in the Constitution. It calls for putting country before political party, for cooperation and compromise to meet the needs of Americans.

We’re in a crisis. Be heroes and go down in history as true patriots. Susan Little Chapel Hill, N.C.
