CRITIC’S CORNER
ABC COMEDY SEASON FINALES ABC, 8 ET/PT
The TV season doesn’t end until next week, but ABC is devoting May 24 to its misbegotten and best-missed remake of Dirty Dancing. So this week, we say goodbye for the summer to The Goldbergs (8 ET/PT), Speechless (8:30 ET/PT) and Modern Family (9 ET/PT) — all of which will be back come fall. The Goldbergs and Modern Family feature graduations (Erica on Goldbergs; Manny and Luke on Family); Speechless sends JJ and the family to summer camp. And Family features a visit by return guest Benjamin Bratt.
BLINDSPOT/CHICAGO PD NBC, 8 AND 10 ET/PT
Blindspot (8 ET/PT) and Chicago PD (10 ET/PT) also wrap up their seasons Wednesday. Blindspot ends with Jane facing an uncertain future, which is no great change for Jane. She’s still probably having a better day than PD’s Lindsay, whose mother (guest star Markie Post) becomes a murder suspect, thanks to the shooting death of her boyfriend.
DESIGNATED SURVIVOR ABC, 10 ET/PT
This season offered fewer disappointments greater than Survivor, which started so well and then quickly got lost in a forest of dull, badly developed plots. Let’s hope this finale at least wraps up the conspiracy once and for all, and allows the show to start fresh in the fall.
