TONIGHT ON TV
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE NBC, SATURDAY 11:30 ET/8:30 PT
Dwayne Johnson hosts as the show ends one of its highestrated seasons in decades. For that, you can thank Melissa McCarthy, Alec Baldwin and, well, someone else.
BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS ABC, SUNDAY, 8 ET/5 PT
Sunday brings another music awards show — and the same old drill: Ignore the prizes; enjoy the performances. For this year’s live broadcast, scheduled performers include Drake, Florida Georgia Line, John Legend, Lorde, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Sam Hunt, Miley Cyrus, Cher (who will pick up the ICON Award) and Celine Dion — who will ask us all to celebrate the 20th anniversary of My Heart Will Go On.
TWIN PEAKS SHOWTIME, SUNDAY, 9 ET/PT
Twenty-seven years after its ABC debut launched a cult and changed what people thought was possible on TV, Twin Peaks returns to Showtime for an 18-episode run directed entirely by David Lynch. Showtime and Lynch would not make review copies available, which normally would indicate the reboot is terrible — but with Lynch, you can probably chalk up the refusal up to his penchant for secrecy. Unless you remember the dismal second season of Peaks and the
Fire Walk With Me movie, in which case you might be inclined to stick with “terrible.” Which are the kind of doubts secrecy creates.
