NEW ON THE LIST AND IN PUBLISHING
More ‘Milk,’ please: At age 24, Rupi Kaur has been called the voice of her generation. (Move over, Lena Dunham.) Milk and Honey, Kaur’s illustrated book of poetry and prose about abuse and healing, has been a surprise smash, selling more than 1.5 million copies, according to publisher Andrews McMeel. It’s been on USA TODAY’s BestSelling Books list for 61 weeks, peaking at No. 3 on Jan. 19. This week it’s No. 24. The Torontobased writer, who was born in India, has more in store for her fans: a new, as yet-untitled book due in October. (No final date yet.) According to her publisher, “Book 2” is similar in vein to Milk and Honey. It’s “a collection of non-traditional and deeply personal poems and original illustrations, focusing on growth, love and healing, ancestry and honoring one’s roots, expatriation and rising up to find a home within yourself.” Kaur, who has a large social media following, originally self-published Milk and Honey in 2014 before it was acquired and republished by Andrews McMeel in October 2015. She is planning a U.S. book tour this fall.
Going ‘Places’: There’s one sure way to tell it’s graduation season: Dr. Seuss’ Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is climbing way up the list. First published in 1990, the children’s classic has been gift-wrapped for many a grad since. This week it’s No. 2. The illustrated, inspirational book of advice (giggles included) hit No. 1 just once, 20 years ago, on June 12, 1997. It made it to No. 2 three other times (June 5, 1997, May 28, 2015, and May 26, 2016). USA TODAY’s list began in fall 1993.
