#BookmarkThis: Chat live with Alan Alda
He communicates on communicating in his new book
You’ll want to #BookmarkThis. On Tuesday, join USA TODAY for a Facebook live video chat with actor Alan Alda about his new book, If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My
Face? (Random House, on sale Tuesday).
#BookmarkThis is a series of live video chats with best-selling authors, and we invite fans to submit questions.
It’s a great chance to touch base with the Emmy Award-winning star, whose new book is subtitled My Adventures in the Art and Science of Relating and Communicating.
IMPROVISATION IS THE SECRET …
If I Understood You is a conversational guide to how we all can communicate better, based on the improv skills Alda learned as an actor.
It’s an outgrowth of his time hosting Scientific American Fron
tiers on PBS and thinking about how complex ideas can be conveyed more simply.
He founded the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at New York’s Stony Brook Univer-
sity, which has trained more than 7,000 people, among them scientists and doctors, in communication skills. FROM M*A*S*H TO BEST SELLERS … Alda also is the author of two humorous memoirs, the USA TODAY best sellers Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I’ve Learned and Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself.
Alda starred as Hawkeye Pierce in the TV classic M*A*S*H. His films include The Aviator (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award), Crimes and
Misdemeanors and Bridge of Spies. He’s appeared on Broadway and received three Tony nominations. Recent TV credits include Horace and Pete, The Blacklist and The Big C.
