Let’s not be hypocritical about ‘Russian ties’

- LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

There is proof of Russian ties! Remember when Donald Trump made that $500,000 speech in Russia? Oops, that was Bill Clinton. Then Trump signed off on selling U.S. uranium resources to Russia? Silly me, that was Hillary Clinton. But then after the uranium deal Trump got $145 million for his foundation. Wait, now I remember, the Clinton Foundation is the one that got the money from shareholders who sold their company to the Russian government. Oh, but didn’t Trump forget to disclose that his foundation received millions more from Russian oligarchs for his foundation? Oh Lord, my memory is slipping. That was also the Clinton Foundation.

Funny how the news media had the same memory lapses. Fortunately, Attorney General Jeff Sessions forgot few of these and more “minor” Russian dealings and is waiting for the appropriate time to pounce. I’m certain that Sessions will not let Hillary cop another plea that it was not her “intent” to deceive. Michael Velsmid Nantucket, Mass.

The chances of a congressional committee investigation into Russia and the Trump campaign even approximating the truth are diminished by the fact that every member of every committee and news outlet is likely to have preconceived opinions and agendas having little to do with finding the truth. David Sizemore Fairbanks, Alaska

Sessions already lied once to Congress. He believes he’s above the law, just like President Trump. @Woodsmith1520

He was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. I’m sure Sessions met with diplomats from all over the world. He wasn’t supposed to do his job? @Dwhthediver

Finally, a public forum to hear what former FBI director James Comey has to say about his conversations with President Trump on the alleged Russian collusion with his campaign. Comey will be under oath, and I reckon he won’t hold back — axe to grind or not. It will be fascinating to hear what he has to say. Regardless, Comey’s testimony won’t be “fake news,” it will be direct testimony of what transpired during those conversations, as well as his insight into why he was fired in the first place. I don’t envy Comey, but I have to believe that he will tell the truth. Michael Anthony Shea

Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath about his meeting with the Russians. That’s why Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation. If I were to lie under oath, I would lose my job too. Mike Bigalow

It’s just a matter of time. It took from June 1972 to August 1974 to get President Nixon. It’s not going to take that long this time because the buffoons in the White House aren’t as smart as Nixon’s team was. Khalid Nurredin
