LONG STRANGE TRIP AMAZON, FRIDAY

Deadheads and casual music fans will probably find much to parse over in Long Strange Trip, a new documentar­y that promises the “untold story” of the Grateful Dead. The film, directed by Amir Bar-Lev and executive-produced by Martin Scorsese, is a deep dive into the band’s history, featuring a wealth of archival footage. Trip premiered to acclaim at Sundance in January and will land Friday in six parts.

THE LEFTOVERS HBO, SUNDAY, 9 ET/PT

The often-bleak HBO series from Damon Lindelof ( Lost) takes its final bow with a 75-minute finale. The Lost finale drew notoriousl­y negative reactions when it aired seven years ago, but the reception of the final Leftovers season so far has been glowing. If it satisfies fans, it is sure to be as intense and emotional as the show has always been.

I’M DYING UP HERE SHOWTIME, SUNDAY, 10 ET/PT

Jim Carrey offers his knowledge of the stand-up world as an executive producer of this new Showtime drama, set in the L.A. comedy-club scene of the 1970s, which helped jumpstart the careers of David Letterman and Richard Pryor. Dying is based on Carrey’s early years, and stars Melissa Leo as a comedy-club owner and mentor to the comics laying it all out there onstage every night.
