U.S. WARPLANE SHOOTS DOWN DRONE IN SYRIA

A U.S. warplane on Thursday shot down an armed drone operated by Syrian regime militias after the unmanned aircraft fired on coalition forces operating in southern Syria, the U.S. military said.

The drone missed and no casualties were reported, but the U.S. military said the drone posed a threat to coalition forces.

The strikes highlight the dangers of a widening conflict as the U.S.-led coalition attempts to navigate a complex battlefield while focusing on defeating the Islamic State, also known as ISIS. TEXAS BOY ‘DRY DROWNS’ DAYS AFTER SWIMMING

A 4-year-old Texas boy died from “dry drowning” almost a week after his family went swimming at the Texas City Dike, in Texas City.

Francisco Delgado Jr. says he called 911 because his son Frankie, 4, stopped breathing. The child had shown symptoms that resembled a stomach bug for several days, including vomiting and diarrhea.

Doctors found fluid in Frankie’s lungs and around his heart, telling the Delgado family that Frankie died of what’s known as “dry drowning.”

Dry drowning, or secondary drowning, can occur hours after a child has experienced a neardrowning incident. If untreated, if can lead to brain injury, respiratory problems or death. IRAN DENOUNCES TRUMP’S RESPONSE TO TERROR HITS

Iran’s foreign minister Thursday denounced as “repugnant” President Trump’s mixed-message response to terror attacks in Tehran that killed 17 people.

“Repugnant WH statement & Senate sanctions as Iranians counter terror backed by US clients,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted. “Iranian people reject such US claims of friendship.”

Iranian officials Thursday raised the death toll to 17 in the attacks a day earlier at Iran’s parliament and the tomb of the country’s former supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Several assailants also died in the assault that wounded more than 40 people.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks, the first reported acts of terrorism carried out by the radical Sunni group in Shiite-dominated Iran.
